With my little boy having his tonsils out, I have taken the last few days off work to be with him.
It's been good fun, but my training has had to drop a little. No lunchtime turbo sessions or commute. I have been doing some core exercises when I can throughout the day but that is all. Consequently I've but more pressure on myself to perform in the evening sessions. No joke as they are designed to inflict pain as far as I can gather.
I've been leaving the house quite late to in order to spend some more time with my wife, getting back at midnight. It's worked okay so far, though I can be grumpy in the mornings.
Tomorrow I have a 50m TT. Which I'd be looking forward to but I have to work this afternoon, 3pm - 11pm, so it will be a late night followed by leaving the house at 5.30am. It means I won't see the family for most of the weekend. I won't have time for my pre-race session either which has no training benefit as such but I find helpful from a mental point of view before a race. My other concern is that I had to adjust the gears on the bike but have had no time to ensure everything is running smoothly. It's much easier to race hard when you have complete confidence in your tools.
The race has strong field so it will really show where I am. I'd really like a 1.50 time to give myself a boost.
I'm still undecided what to do about my wheels, for the attempt and just in general. I'm using Mavic Cosmic Carbones at the moment, very good wheels, but compared to a very deep front and a disc I'm certainly at a disadvantage.
Time to quickly pack my race bag to prevent any last minute panic. Famous last words.
