The London to Bath and Back record.

In 1981 John Woodburn set the Road Records Association Record for London to Bath and back. He covered the 211 miles in just 9 hours, 3 minutes and 7 seconds. A time so formidable that it has stood for over 28 years unchallenged. This my training blog as I attempt the break the record.

Well that was an unpleasant training session. As if the hard intervals weren't enough, there had to be a heavy down pour. I think that must have been the wettest ride I've had.

I've had a nice day with the children, in the park and garden. The weather sunny and warm. However by 7pm it was looking a little dodgy, then light drizzle. Outcame the waterproof jacket and overshoes, both packed away for the summer sometime ago.

For the first hour it looked like I'd got lucky, the drizzle stopped and I beginning to get hot in all my layers. Twenty minutes later however and the heavens opened, the rain bouncing almost a foot back up in the air off the road. I was soaked to the bone almost instantly, my shoes waterlogged, like wearing wellies full of water.

I completed the session I'm pleased to say, returning home at about 10.30pm. I peeled the sodden lycra off and then quickly cleaned up the puddles on the kitchen floor before they were noticed.

A friend of a friend knows Eileen Sheriden, who has held the womens LTB&B since the 50's. In fact she has held many records. A meeting with her is planned in the near future.
