The London to Bath and Back record.

In 1981 John Woodburn set the Road Records Association Record for London to Bath and back. He covered the 211 miles in just 9 hours, 3 minutes and 7 seconds. A time so formidable that it has stood for over 28 years unchallenged. This my training blog as I attempt the break the record.

The hard sessions and unrelenting time table are taking their toll. I get little time at work to stop and stare, especially as it is a time of change, with slight role changes for everyone. I am squeezing in the lunch time turbo sessions still, and just about leaving on time to pick the children up. It could be exciting work wise but I can't think about it, if it all started after 1st August, it would be my main topic of conversation.

My main conversation is of course about the record. We met some friends for dinner, and they asked what I had been up to, again I had to go into detail about the attempt. It was good to see their excitment and amazement. They asked how I got S to agree to it, and I noticed S was pondering that too.

It is safe to say I'm a bit of a day dreamer, this being a daily blog was obviously a dream. But I rarely have dreams at night until two days ago when I dreamt I was dropped on my club run.

I should be out on a 4 hour training ride now, I had planned to be out of the house by 5am for a couple of reasons. I promised time with all four of us together, and to train the body for an early start. It all went pear-shaped though as the little boy woke up with ear ache. Calpol was administered every 4 hours, but his stirring, complaining and screaming stopped S from getting any sleep too. At about 3am I heard S was coughing badly, very chesty and deep. I'm leaving her to sleep, she isn't well and obviously needs rest, it is the weekend afterall. Where that leaves todays training I don't know. Hopefully I will still get away in daylight.
