The London to Bath and Back record.

In 1981 John Woodburn set the Road Records Association Record for London to Bath and back. He covered the 211 miles in just 9 hours, 3 minutes and 7 seconds. A time so formidable that it has stood for over 28 years unchallenged. This my training blog as I attempt the break the record.

Resting - how hard can it be.

With the fever coming back, I had to take a day off work. My first day of due to illness in living memory. My coach advised me to rest well. How hard can that be?

And yet I found myself thinking surely a bit of weight work couldn't do any harm? I contemplated sit ups. Why not? In truth, I wasn't up to either for two whole days.

On my return to work I tried to take the commute in easy, I pushed a little, just to test the legs. I actually felt strong in the leg department, but my headache wasn't going anywhere. The headache eventually faded away on day 3, which was lucky as my ever optomistic wife thought I had a blood clot at best, a tumour at worse. I thought she was going to trapan me in my sleep.

I immediately I leapt on to the turbo to check how my heart rate responded. It seemed perfect. I was back!

I have the Southern Counties 25 on Sunday, I have no idea how I'll do, but any thing under the hour will be pleasing. It is apparently a slow course, and from the insructions, a very confusing one. I may get a little lost. Of course it is really all just a way of making training more fun so I shouldn't care too much.

With the days of rest the size of the attempt has got to me a little. Plus people are asking how it's going? Am I on target ?etc.

I don't really know what to say, I couldn't do it now. But in a few months? May be, but who really knows that. Isn't that sport? I'm just pleased to be back on the training plan and trying not looking further than one day ahead.
