The London to Bath and Back record.

In 1981 John Woodburn set the Road Records Association Record for London to Bath and back. He covered the 211 miles in just 9 hours, 3 minutes and 7 seconds. A time so formidable that it has stood for over 28 years unchallenged. This my training blog as I attempt the break the record.

It's never all good news.

Having dismissed the idea of using either a deeper front or a rear disc wheel, I'm now caught in two minds. Previously I've assumed that the time gained through aerodynamics versus weight would be too marginal to bother, considering the disc will be more uncomfortable. However a quick look through the record books revealed that most of the new records are set beating previous records by only a few minutes. For instance John Woodburn beat Les West's LTB&B record by just 4 minutes. Perhaps the difference of a disc over a 50mm deep aero wheel.

The real sad new though is that my Dad will need further treatment, chemotheraphy to be precise. It's hard to take as he has been getting stronger and his spirits are so high. He doesn't seem phased, but who what he feels inside. My daughter has been talking to him a lot on the phone, which I know makes him very happy.
