The London to Bath and Back record.

In 1981 John Woodburn set the Road Records Association Record for London to Bath and back. He covered the 211 miles in just 9 hours, 3 minutes and 7 seconds. A time so formidable that it has stood for over 28 years unchallenged. This my training blog as I attempt the break the record.

All alone.

I still haven't found time for a ride in the daylight. I was set for a morning escape, but then a job for the man of the house came up. Mending the vacuum cleaner. Why I should be better at diagnosing the fault than anyone else is a mystery. I'm not James Dyson or J.Edgar Hoover. Anyhow by the time I'd time I put the thing back together and boxed up the left over screws and parts it was too late to leave.

I was doing my usual night ride, the choice is limited by the need for decent roads which are well lit, when I became lonely and isolated. It's not a feeling I've had before, but gliding down a hill, alone in the dark some way from the nearest house I felt vulnerable.

It would be nice to have company on the rides but because of individual abilities and needs I just can't see it happening.

So I remain alone, hopefully capable of getting back to civilisation whatever happens.
